What are Terrariums & why should I add one to my home?
Terrariums are small, enclosed ecosystems. They can house a variety of different temperate and tropical plants and mosses. They are typically made from glass to allow the plants to photosynthesize incoming light.

Low Maintenance
At Forge & Fern we strive to make our terrariums easy to care for. All our terrariums come with springtails and in some cases isopods. These special creatures are referred to as the clean-up crew. They ingest mold, debris, and organic matter. Their waste provides nutrients for the moss and plants.

Have a dark corner? No problem, we offer light fixtures to accompany terrariums placed in an area without natural light.

We create a variety of different custom builds. Our custom builds range from large reptile and amphibian enclosures to small specialized pieces.

About F&F
The owners, Max and Greg, live in the Portland, Maine area with their two hounds (Forge & Fisher). Described by many as “crazy dogs dads that would rather be in the woods.”
F&F began with Forge. One month after our wedding we walked into the Animal Refuge League of Portland and found little Forge. He was the craziest little guy. He required so much activity so we were forced to begin hiking everyday. Through our adventures we found a great respect for moss and the small ecosystems supporting them.
Forge & Fern Terrariums was born from our family adventures and are a reflection of what we discover in the woods of Maine.
